PSA’s queue still prices the middle of the market. Standard opened September 14 at $59.99 per card (90–100 business days, $1,000 max insured value). Priority (ex-Regular) holds at $79.99. Express rose to $199 effective September 9. Value Bulk through Value Max remain paused. PSA’s public tracker put the active backlog near 9.9 million cards as of September 8 — down from the late-July peak, not cleared. Standard is a bridge, not Value returning.
Tell
Same grade is not the same asset. A 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 graded PSA NM-MT 8 with an MBA Silver designation cleared $3,721,000 at Heritage on August 21. Another PSA 8 Mantle sold at Goldin in June for $1.83 million. Same set, same number on the label — nearly $1.9 million of difference. At this end of the desk, you are buying eye appeal and pedigree inside the grade, not the slab alone.

1984 Star Michael Jordan #101 PSA 7 — $147,500 on eBay (Sept 5). A second PSA 7 printed ~$147k the next day. Demand at mid-high Jordan Star is sticky, not one-off.
2018 Topps Chrome Shohei Ohtani Orange Refractor /25 BGS 10 — $120,000 via Fanatics Weekly (Sept 6). Hard print run, black-label modern. Scarcity you can count.
1952 Topps Mantle #311 PSA Authentic / Altered — $130,000 on eBay (Sept 12). Even altered copies of the icon still clear six figures — demand signal, not a clean-comp.
What it means if you’re allocating serious money
Hold copies you can defend on look and story five years out — the Mantle PSA 8 spread is the week’s proof that pedigree inside the grade is the trade. Wait on rushing mid-value raw into Express just to beat the queue; the fee hike is real and Value is still closed. Hunt scarce modern with hard numbering (the Ohtani /25 shape) or vintage where eye appeal separates the copy from its pop-report peers.
